Creating Treasure

This week I was re-reading Seth Godin’s The Practice, and in it he quotes artist George Ferrandi as saying, “If you have to ask ‘should I keep going?’ the answer is ‘yes'”. That statement sat with me as, you might remember, last week I was considering adding more elements to the tropical fish.

I’m glad I listened to that inner nudge. It led to one of those extremely happy moments that occasionally occurs when drawing. When you execute an idea, not knowing the outcome, and the result makes you grin from ear-to-ear.

In this case, it was the clam. I started drawing it on one day, and finished it the next. It was on that second day that I had the idea to tuck a pearl inside. A tiny treasure waiting for the keen observer to notice it. It felt like giving a gift, one that might make the recipient smile, too.

Do you notice the subtle color changes from last week’s art? Nothing is set in stone, until the art is sent off for printing.
