Digital Watercolor Practice

As I’ve been thinking about my next art collection, I remembered back to last summer when I embraced watercolor sketching for fun. It was my first time truly embracing the messy, unpredictable medium. And I loved it.

Lisa Glanz is a talented illustrator I’ve followed for years, and I learned she recently released a digital, watercolor brush set for Procreate called Aqua Real 2. Would it be like painting with the real thing? I had to find out!

One of Lisa’s many strengths is documenting how to use her products, including video tutorials. In her video for this particular brush set, she demonstrated how to paint a beautiful floral pitcher.

In the photo, Lisa’s original painting is on the left. She then provided a pencil sketch for us to paint our own version of the pitcher. The larger one on the right is mine, painted while following along with Lisa.

Is it like painting with the real thing?

Pretty darn close.

While you have to manipulate the “paint” a bit differently than with real watercolor, it achieves dramatically similar results, wouldn’t you agree?

I’m so happy to have given her brushes a try! When I use them professionally, I don’t know if I’ll be using as much detail as shown here, but I love having that option at my fingertips.

Thank you, Lisa, for creating such beautiful products. ♥
